Photographing a small living room in a small eclectic style opens up a whole new way of approaching your room and how you approach interior decorating. I am no professional when it comes to interior design but I do have some small living room decorating ideas that work well for me. A small eclectic study room in Berkshire without floor lamps, beige-colored walls and a freestanding coffee table. That look would be complete with some contemporary lighting and a few throw pillows on the sofa.
Small living rooms can be decorated with the same ideas as large rooms in the way that small rooms can be decorated with mid-sized items. We live in the digital age, so we have the ability to access vast collections of mid-sized furnishings at the touch of a button. We can also choose classic mid-sized pieces that will coordinate perfectly with the rest of our home decor. Decorating small rooms in homes with small ceilings requires using coordinating color, textures, and fabrics for furniture and upholstery.
Choose a living room color palette
Choose a color palette that is complementary to your living room carpeting or hardwood floors. If your home has a lot of hardwood floors, choose dark woods such as mahogany or maple. On the other hand, if your home flooring is tile or marble, light-colored woods like pine would be better. Be sure to avoid wallpaper and wallpaper colors that absorb light.
Choose a soft, neutral, carpeting for the entire room except for the area directly behind the sofa and one-half wall behind the sofa in your study. The area directly behind the sofa should be a hardwood floor with no rugs on it. Carpeting is too bright and absorbs a lot of light. A mezzanine floor in the garage will give you an extra touch of sophistication while keeping your garage floor free from debris.
Consider a small study desk
Consider a small study desk, which is in the shape of a U with two open bookcases at each end for easy access to study books and papers. Consider hanging a mirror with lights directly above the desk. Another idea would be to use a small TV which is connected to a VCR by way of a cable. The VCR could be run from your study table.
Consider a mezzanine floor in the garage as a storage space for toys, holiday decorations or holiday clothes. You can even use it to hold holiday dinnerware! If you already have a double garage, consider putting shelving up against the door for extra storage space. This will create an interesting geometric pattern with your storage space.
Advantages of installing glass doors
One final suggestion for your mezzanine floor may sound a bit strange but it is actually very useful and may actually make your life a lot easier. It is possible to install a sliding glass door which has a small window on the front. These are called “loft” doors and can be installed in either a small closet or in a small mezzanine floor in the garage. The advantage of these doors is that they allow easy ingress/extraction of materials for cleaning without having to open a large door.
The final word about this wonderful little storage space comes from the use of double joists. Double joists are made from plywood strips covered in a veneer. They are the most difficult type of joists to install and the best for a mezzanine floor. In addition, they increase the structural integrity of the floor by securing all of the liberal elements together. For these reasons, installing a mezzanine is a must if you want to keep your floors as sound as they should be.
